Cœur de Mons

In 2023 we acquired the former Le Roi du Matelas store on rue de Nimy, at the entrance to the Mons city centre: an obsolete, run-down retail building sitting on one of the busiest streets in town.

Some buildings deserve to be restored. This one did not. We chose full demolition and a new build, to deliver a contemporary, energy-efficient building genuinely suited to how people live today.

Mons is a university city. Every year UMons welcomes thousands of students into a housing stock that cannot keep up. At the same time, the city centre lacks the quality apartments it needs to keep residents living there.

Cœur de Mons answers both: twenty-one UMons-certified student rooms, a quality and compliance standard recognised by the university, and eight residential apartments.

A dead building at the gateway to a city becomes twenty-nine homes and a new facade. That is what we call useful density.
